The INL International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, located in Braga (North of Portugal) was founded by the governments of Portugal and Spain under an international legal framework to perform interdisciplinary research, deploy and articulate nanotechnology for the benefit of society. INL aims to become the world-wide hub for nanotechnology addressing society’s grand challenges. The INL research programme comprises five strategic fields of application of nanoscience and nanotechnology: Food, Environment, ICT, Renewable Energy and Health.
INL offers a full-fledged nanotechnology laboratory enabling scientists to lead forefront research for fostering the responsible deployment of nanotechnology and creating societal value. INL conducts activities stretching from exploratory research up to low-volume pre-production series.
With the experience gathered in StartupNano (incubation and acceleration program for nanotech entrepreneurs) and top researchers and labs, INL provides expertise on Nanoencapsulation and supports the creation of an ecosystem to build and grow microalgae-based start-ups focused in global markets.
INL will lead all WP3 (capitalization) actions to foster the transfer of knowledge among partners and stakeholders (Patent licensing, brokerage events, technological-service coupons, etc), promote entrepreneurial activities, by supporting the creation of an ecosystem to build and grow microalgae-based start-ups focused in global markets, foster skilled employment, identifying and/or helping to develop specific formation and capacitation programs across Europe to improve the technical qualification and skills of workers in the microalgae sector. INL will also participate in WP7 to develop protocols for encapsulation of microalgae and microalgae-bioproducts in particles of different size and surface chemistry for direct SME use.
